Trondheim — Bodø – Roaming Around

Day 27 After having checked the weather forecast on the day of my arrival in the Nidaros city, forecasting a rainy week on my planned route Trondheim-Bodø but sunny weather from Lofoten to Tromsø, I had decided to escape the rain zone by taking the scenic Nordland train from Trondheim to Bodø in order to enjoy better weather conditions while touring on the islands, one of the highlights of my Scandinavia tour, and booked a ticket for me and my bike online.⁠⠀

On Sunday morning at 7:00 I left Allan’s flat. It took me not more than 15 minutes to reach Trondheim Sentral and to push my bike into the train station hall. I bought sandwitches and took the lift to the platform, handed over luggage and bicycle to the NSB employee who secured it in the coach reserved to bicycle transport and I walked to my coach at the other end of the train.

The Nordland line is Norway’s longest, not electrified, single track railway line. The railway crosses 293 bridges, ploughs through 154 tunnels and crosses the Arctic Circle after 579 km in its epic journey northwards from Trondheim to Bodø.

After a pleasant journey with many stops, the train finally arrived in Bodø at 17:32. Bicycle and luggage were handed over by an NSB employee back to me and I cycled out of the train station. Ten minutes later I reached the house of my Airbnb host, took a shower and walked to a nearby pizzeria to have dinner.
