Taivalkoski — Käylä

Day 46 I left the guesthouse at 7.50am and followed road 20 to Kuusamo, where I arrived around 1pm after having to fight all the time against a fresh headwind slowing down my pace. I asked a group of young cyclists for the way to the local bike shop in order to tentatively get rid of the constant creaking noise produced by the right pedal when pedaling since a few days. I explained the shop owner what I had tried so far and that it would perhaps help to remove the pedal, grease its thread and remount it. This luckily solves the problem. Before leaving Kuusamo I stopped close to the road 5 / E63 to take a quick lunch. The headwind continued to blow. Axel awaited me on a river bridge and we cycled together the last kilometres to their home at lake Pikku-Rävä. Anne welcomed me in their cosy cottage and invited me to take a swim in the lake. The bath was very refreshing, understandable just two weeks after the covering ice has molten, and I felt great after having dried my body in the sun. We had a nice evening together and it was late as we finally went to bed.

Day 47 On the next day, Axel took me on a long walk around the vaste property. In the afternoon we cycled to one of their wood-fired sauna huts at the border of the lake. There we baked bread and grilled sausages over the campfire, drank beer before taking a relaxing sauna.
