- Summary of Baltic Sea — 2017
Day 19 After breakfast I took the ferry across the Curonian lagoon to Smiltynė. The crossing takes only 10 min. I left the ferry and took the unique road. At the crossing with road 167 begins the cycle path, well signed with “EuroVelo 10”, through the Kursiu Nerija national park. It leads to the Baltic Sea shore. The path continues along the dunes. I stopped a few times to climb up the wooden path across the dunes and admire an in both directions endless, virgin sandy beach. The cycle path continues under pine trees along the dunes and leads to Juodkrantė. Later the path crosses road 167 in direction of the lagoon. As I later leaved a cycle path in bad conditions to continue on the road, a policeman stopped me and instructed me to switch on my bike light while being on the road. It was now 1.30pm and I was still 12 km away from Nida. Five kilometres before Nida, cycle traffic being prohibited on road 167, I had to take a sandy trail through the forest and was finally happy to reach the border of the lagoon with a good cycle path to Nida. At the harbour a friendly skipper told me that I could get back to Smiltynė by bus. I double checked at the bus stop. I had 3 hours left to take a lunch and explore the village. The bus left Nida at 5pm and brought me to the old ferry terminal linking to the center of Klaipeda, close to the river Dane.
