- Summary of Baltic Sea — 2017
Day 37 Kari’s coffee machine woke me up at 8:30. We had breakfast together and Kari told me of his cycle tours through Europe. Kari has an impressive collection of bikes and an own bicycle workshop. He showed interest for the Pinion gear and carbon drive combination of my bike and took pictures of them. I let him do a short ride to test the gear. Then I had to leave.
My legs had not recovered from yesterday’s long stage and I prefered to push my bike on long slopes to save some energy. I stopped at a shop in Ruokolathi, bought sandwiches, fruits and a bottle of strange tasting apple spritzer. Around noon I stopped for lunch at a lake near Virmutjoki. I had a few further short stops in the afternoon and finally reached Punkaharju at 5.30pm. There was nobody at the reception of the guesthouse, so I called the host and was free to choose my room. After having taken a shower and washed my sweaty clothing, I walked to a nearby pizzeria (the only one alternative being a grill shop) and got there a tasty pizza (with jalapeños), a tuna salad and beer. On the way back I stopped at the lake, enjoying the view and quietness of the place. Back at the guesthouse, I started to update my travel blog, but went to bed after a short while.

Stage 32:
83.7 km 5:32 15.1 km/h 550 m 550 m 3,005.8 km 3,134.2 km
Day 38 I got a very good breakfast and the host gave me some information about the Punkaharju Ridge area. I took my luggage-free bike and cycled first to the Finnish Forest Museum LUSTO, which focuses on the Finnish forest culture and illustrates the interaction between man and forest. Then I followed one of the hike & cycle trails through the Punkaharju research forest. On the way back to the guesthouse I stopped at the pizzeria and at the nearby shop to buy some food for the next travel day.
